LeBron makes point in MVP battle with Stephen Curry…
Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James dropped 42 points on the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night as the Cavs took bragging rights in a possible preview of the NBA Finals.
James scored his season-high to lead the Cavs to their 18th win in their last 20 games while he added 11 rebounds to outshine his MVP rival Stephen Curry.
The Warriors point guard scored 18 points and insisted that he hoped the decision wouldn’t come down to games like these, as ultimately he endured an off night but feels as though he has established himself as a legitimate contender across the season.
Nevertheless, he will have been disappointed by the defeat which leaves Golden State at 44-11 for the season, while Cleveland improve to 37-22 as they continue to climb the Eastern Conference and establish themselves as the team to beat come the playoffs.
In the only other game of the night, the Phoenix Suns outlasted the Oklahoma City Thunder with Eric Bledsoe leading his team to a win with 28 points, 13 rebounds, nine assists and four blocks.
It was a significant win for the Suns who have lost ground on the Thunder for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West, but this win will certainly be a confidence boost for the entire organisation after a difficult few weeks.
Having shaken up their roster with various trade moves last Thursday, the Suns will be delighted to have won such a big game to move to 31-28 for the season while OKC slip to 32-26.
Russell Westbrook again starred for the visitors as he ended the game with 39 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for his fourth triple-double of the season as he continues to play at a ridiculously high level without the injured Kevin Durant.
However, it wasn’t enough on Thursday as Phoenix move to within one-and-a-half games of them in the standings.
NBA Results
Golden State Warriors 99-110 Cleveland Cavaliers
Oklahoma City Thunder 113-117 Phoenix Suns
