The Shockers had previously reached the Final Four as a No. 9 seed in 2013, and they lived up to their name against the Jayhawks as they kept pace in the first half.
They eventually pulled away in the second half as they continued to drain three-pointers, shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc.
The ball was evenly distributed as all five of the Shockers’ starters scored double digit points. Guard Tekele Cotton led the way with 19 points while guard Fred VanVleet added 17 points with six rebounds and six assists.
For the Jayhawks, guard Devonte Graham and forward Perry Ellis each scored 17 points, but the entire team was held to 35.1 percent shooting from the field.
