The Kansas Jayhawks ensured that they weren’t the victims of an early upset with a comfortable win over the New Mexico State Aggies.
The second seed were led by Frank Mason III who scored 17 points to lead a balanced attack as the Jayhawks rolled to a 75-56 victory over No.15 seed New Mexico State.
It was the first win in the NCAA Tournament for a Big 12 team, and it was relatively straight forward for the Jayhawks who led throughout the game and looked impressive with their ball movement and ability to find the open man.
Perry Ellis added nine points as Kansas improved their overall season record to 27-8, and they now wait to find out their next opponents with a mouth-watering clash against Wichita State a possibility.
DK Eldridge had 11 points while Remi Barry added 10 points for the Aggies (23-11), but despite the fact that they had won 13 straight coming into this contest, they were no match for Kansas as the run of shocks stopped early on Friday.
Nevertheless, there was a familiar face on the court in the second half as Tanveer Bhullar, brother of Sim who is currently playing in the D-League, scored four points as he was perfect from the field.
However, it wasn’t enough to bridge the gap as Kansas advance while the Aggies go home.
