Bayern boss gets physical again with his new players…
Bayern Munich’s new boss Pep Guardiola was seen giving his star signing Thiago a friendly slap during his side’s 4-2 defeat to league rivals Borussia Dortmund.
The defeat in the German Super Cup, (the equivalent of the Charity shield) was Guardiola’s first competitive game in charge, and two goals from Marco Reus helped sink last season’s treble winners.
Guardiola was not disheartened though.
“I don’t have the feeling that they played much better than us,” he said, as reported in The Guardian.
“It’s football. It can happen. We played well, we did things right. We played against a strong team, who played the Champions League final. But I’m pleased for my players. It’s a good lesson for us. After one month, I am very happy with our performance.”
The Spanish manager did give star signing Thiago a friendly slap however. The £25m midfielder will be key to Bayern’s new tika-taka philosophy, and Guardiola was clearly keen to remind him who is boss!
