Gaborik strikes in OT to seal win for the Rangers.
Marian Gaborik scored the game-winner 42 seconds into overtime as the New York Rangers rallied to beat the New York Islanders 2-1 on Thursday night.
The Islanders were less than six minutes away from their first shut-out of the Rangers since December 2006, only for Rick Nash to score the tying goal with 5:23 left in regulation.
Having taken it into overtime, Gaborik stepped up to hit home the game-winning shot which moves the Rangers to 12-8-2 for the season as they hold on to eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.
This latest result hands the Rangers their fourth consecutive win as they look to put daylight between themselves and the Winnipeg Jets for a place in the play-offs.
Meanwhile, the Islanders are slightly off the pace in tenth with a mediocre 10-11-3 record.
