New Zealand rugby league officials have labelled Australia’s junior Kangaroos as “disrespectful’ after their response to the Kiwi’s traditional pre-match Haka on Saturday.
Both teams advanced and towards each other and stood face-to-face, forcing referees to break the two sides up after tensions began to escalate.
New Zealand rugby league president Howie Tamati said the Australians had sparked the heated confrontation.
“In regard to the actions of the Australian boys to walk up and get in the New Zealand boys faces, that was really provocative and disrespectful,” Tamati told Fairfax New Zealand.
New Zealand won a hard-fought encounter 15-14 at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland.
