ESPNCricinfo reporter Melinda Farrell was the unlucky recipient of the shot, and will no doubt be sporting a bruise on Thursday.
To Southee’s credit, he rushed over to the outfield to check on the health of Farrell, who laughed off the incident.
“I saw you duck and I thought it might have hit you in the head,” a concerned Southee said.
Southee and his Black Caps teammates were in training for the first Test against England at Lord’s, beginning on Thursday.
The Kiwi World Cup hero will be hoping for the same kind of accuracy with the ball against an England side tuning up for the upcoming Ashes series against Australia.
