Willie Mason previews the Newcastle Knights’ 2013 NRL season.
Newcastle Knights forward Willie Mason believes a strong pre-season and a host of new players will contribute to a strong season for the Knights.
Putting the off-field drama of new coach Wayne Bennett and high profile owner Nathan Tinker behind them will allow the players to concentrate on training and matches according to the former Canterbury Bulldog.
Joining the Knights in round 8 last season Mason has had the benefit of a full pre-season preparation for the 2013 season and will be looking to add his size and strength to the Knights’ forward line.
Taking on a more senior role at his new club, the former Kangaroo representative brings much needed experience to a young Knights team.
Despite an active off-season in the player market Newcastle still look to be in a transition period under super-coach Wayne Bennett.
With star fullback Darius Boyd still under-performing and an inexperienced forward pack, the Knights will need time to grow under Bennett before they will become a serious finals contender.
