As college prospects visit Indianapolis, we preview all the test they will undertake over the three days.
It is the question that is asked about every player that attends the combine – How fast did he run the 40?
Speed is one of the most important aspects of an NFL player in this era, and nothing says more about a player’s explosiveness than their time in the 40 yard dash. Excluding lineman, anything over 4.5 seconds is deemed okay.
if you can run it sub 4.4 people will take note and be amazed at clear speed you have. Run it under 4.3, and you are instantly the hit of the entire event and you will fly up draft boards (especially for the Oakland Raiders).
While the test has absolutely no reflection on a potential NFL prospects skills as a player, it is the most anticipated event of the combine, and is so much fun, even the media get involved.
