Sharp could be set for spell on the sidelines for up to three weeks.
Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Sharp will not travel with his team-mates to Denver on Friday, ahead of their clash with the Colorado Avalanche.
The 31-year-old was hit during Chicago’s 3-2 win over Colorado on Wednesday night, as he was driven into the boards midway through the third period by defenseman Ryan O’Byrne.
He appeared to have suffered a shoulder injury, with Hawks’ coach Joel Quenneville removing him from the game and he failed to return.
Up until his injury blow, the forward had been a big part of the Blackhawks’ record-breaking start to the NHL season.
He is currently tied for third on the team in scoring with 18 points, and has been a facilitator too providing 13 assists.
Chicago will look to improve on their 21-0-3 start to the season, but will undoubtedly be weakened through Sharp’s absence.
The Blackhawks have recalled foward Brandon Bolig from Rockford, a day after assigning him to their AHL affiliate.
