Closely fought win for the Rangers keeps their playoff hopes alive.
A second-period strike from Derick Brassard ensured the New York Rangers secured a vital 1-0 win over the Washington Capitals on Sunday night, thus forcing their series into a Game 7 decider.
Henrik Lundqvist also produced an impressive performance as he made 27 saves on the night, the seventh NHL Playoffs shut-out of his career.
Having kept their hopes alive, the Rangers will now travel to Washington on Monday night hoping to avoid falling to a fourth consecutive road defeat, in a series where the home team has won all six games.
Despite their heroics on Sunday, the odds are still stacked firmly against New York who have only converted two goals at the Verizon Center in this series.
Game 7 will mark the third time in two years that the Capitals have required a win in the decider to advance, winning both last year against the Boston Bruins and Rangers respectively.
