Chelsea have beaten Norwich City 1-3 at Carrow Road in the Premier League, with goals from Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian, despite Anthony Pilkington levelling the tie for the hosts.
The Blues were keen to keep up the good run of form that has seen them take a point from White Hart Lane and demolish Steaua Bucharest 0-4 in the Champions League in the last week.
Jose Mourinho gave starts to both Demba Ba and Juan Mata and it was the former that helped the visitors take the lead within four minutes.
A long ball was played up to the striker, who held it up well to turn and play the it into Oscar’s feet, before the Brazilian smashed it with the outside of the boot into the bottom corner.
England No.1 candidate John Ruddy could do nothing about the 22-year-old’s effort, but nearly cost the team a second at a sunny match in Norwich when the goalkeeper spilled the ball.
Ruddy was playing without a cap despite blazing sun and dropped a relatively easy catch to Ba’s feet, before managing to do enough to ensure it went out for a corner.
The away side had much the better of the first half, but Canaries manager Chris Hughton had motivated his side at half-time and Norwich looked strong after the break.
In the end they got their reward when the out-of-form Ricky Van Wolfswinkel headed a ball back across goal to Pilkington and the midfielder nodded it low past Petr Cech.
The game remained level until Mourinho decided to provide some impact substitutions late on, with Hazard coming on for Ashley Cole – who was struggling with a rib injury – and Willian replacing Mata.
Almost immediately the Belgian struck to break Norwich hearts, with the 22-year-old’s shot squirming under Ruddy.
Willian saved the best until last however with a brilliant strike that secured all three points for the Blues and leaves them on a high heading into the international break.
