The tone for the match was set in game one as Djokovic easily won against serve. Nadal had chances to break back, including two points in game seven, but was himself broken again to concede the set.
Djokovic – the reigning Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open champion – raised his game even further in the second and had his great rival pinned against the ropes after two early breaks.
A remarkable missed volley on his second match point demonstrated his humanity, but a seventh ace of the contest from the 28-year-old sealed him a simple straight-sets win in one hour and 32 minutes.
Djokovic has now won all three of his 2015 matches against Nadal, and has beaten the 14-time Grand Slam winner in eight of their last nine meetings – seven of which have been in tournament finals.
