Giroud’s goal marks his third in as many games, and an impressive response to being left out of Arsene Wenger’s starting lineup for a month when the Gunners boss preferred Theo Walcott as his lone striker.
The hosts were two goals to the good only 90 seconds later when another Frenchman – Laurent Koscielny – met another superb delivery, this time from Santi Cazorla, to send another header past Tim Howard.
Arsenal will go top of the Premier League with victory over the Toffees, but face a potentially sticky second half after Ross Barkley’s deflected effort on 44 minutes brought the visitors back to 2-1.
