Pittsburgh clinch early lead as Conference semi-finals begin.
The Pittsburgh Penguins sealed a dominant 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semi-finals clash on Tuesday night at the Consol Energy Center.
Pittsburgh excelled in playing a simple game that allowed them to play to their strengths by producing numerous scoring chances and manufacture power plays.
In contrast, Ottawa will be all too aware of the task that faces them, and they know there is little margin for error if they are to upset the Penguins.
Goals from Paul Martin, Chris Kunitz, Pascal Dupuis and Evgeni Malkin sealed the rout, while Sidney Crosby and Pittsburgh enjoyed a great start to the series which sees Game 2 take place on Friday night.
There was also a notable performance from Tomas Vokoun who stopped 35 shots as he went on to win his third straight game since replacing Marc-Andre Fleury between the posts.
While the Senators will be disappointed with their start to the series, they will now have to regroup and hope to split the opening two games before heading back home to put real pressure on the Penguins.
