Will Johnson’s goal the difference in close win for Timbers.
The Portland Timbers secured all three points at home as a Will Johnson goal with 10 minutes remaining was enough to see off the San Jose Earthquakes Sunday evening.
The game was a close fought affair, which sparked into life when Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon was sent off for an elbow on Mikael Silvestre on 68 minutes.
However it was Will Johnson that stole the show with ten minuets remaining after he netted a sublime free kick from 25 yards out, which sent the Timbers faithful into wild celebrations.
This win saw Portland jump five places into third place and see’s them seven points off top spot in the Western Division.
