Bucharest’s penalty was ‘soft’ claims interim boss.
‘Interim’ Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez was downbeat after the Blues’ 1-0 defeat at Steaua Bucharest in the first leg of their Europa League last 16 tie on Thursday.
The Spaniard felt Bucharest’s winning penalty was ‘soft’ and credited the hosts goalkeeper for a string of fine saves.
While Chelsea fans are hardly enamoured with the idea of a long and arduous Europa League run, Benitez will be under renewed pressure on Friday after another abject performance in Romania.
Steaua boss Laurentiu Reghecampf said his side ‘only wanted to score’ but insisted ‘anything can happen’ at the return leg at Stamford Bridge.
