Spaniard is now looking forward to next month’s French Open.
Former world No 1 Rafa Nadal said that he was encouraged by his showing in the Monte Carlo Masters, despite the Spaniard losing in straight sets in Sunday’s final to Novak Djokovic.
The clay-court specialist had been out of action with a career-threatening knee injury for seven months prior to his eagerly-anticipated comeback earlier this year.
However, the world No 5 was unable to get the better of Serbia’s world No 1 on Sunday, going down 6-2, 7-6.
