Boston Celtics legendary centre appears to leap from free throw line and dunk over the top of another player in short clip.
Playing your NBA career between 1956 and 1969 means it wasn’t easy to perform in front of video cameras. So modern day fans are just forced to imagine what players like Russell did in their heads, and listen to those who saw it first hand.
Bill Russell is the most successful NBA player in history, having won an incredible 11 world championships, five NBA MVP awards and being selected to 12 All-Star games. He was the original legend of the game, and until some other player called Michael Jordan turned up, he was considered the best of all time.
In this video, Russell takes the rebound, drives down the court at full speed, leaps from the free throw line, over an alleged seven foot centre before taking the easy layup.
Lebron James cannot do that, and he is the self proclaimed king of the NBA right now, so this just proves how far ahead of his time Russell was, and how influential he was to the game.
