Rugby League showcase their off-field involvement
The NRL community initiative dubbed ‘One Community’ is often underrated in it’s efforts to promote positive messages in the wider community through the rugby league channel.
Launched in 2006 One Community is a combined effort of the game’s players, volunteers, supporters, schools, corporates and charity partners whose aim is to make positive differences in the wider community.
Of the many projects the group undertake the most notable include Women in League, the Ambassador Program, Eat Well Play Well Stay Well, Dream Believe Achieve, Rugby League Reads and ongoing health promotion in Indigenous and culturally diverse communities.
The Rugby League All Stars exhibition match is another initiative driven by One Community and in its relatively short lifetime has become a fixture of the NRL season.
Thanks largely to a heavy involvement from high profile indigenous players like Preston Campbell, the exhibition game has quickly grown a large audience.
