LA Galaxy were two goals to the good after 65 minutes, with strikes from Marcelo Sarvas and Hector Jimenez, and looked well on course for victory.
However, they didn’t count on an astonishing comeback from the Earthquakes, roared on by their home crowd at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Alan Gordon pulled one back for San Jose after 68 minutes, before they suffered a blow when Victor Bernardez received two yellow cards within ten minutes.
However, the ten men somehow rallied and unbelievably scored twice in injury time, Shea Alinas and Gordon getting the crucial strikes.
LA Galaxy leave San Jose wondering how they managed to lose the match from such a commanding position.
