Mark Webber has survived a scary incident in the World Endurance Championship finale in Brazil.
The former Red Bull Formula One driver made contract with Ferrari’s Matteo Cressoni on the 300km/h curve, causing his Porsche to burst into flames after making secondary contact with a barrier.
Webber gave the crowd a thumbs up whilst he was carried off the track on a stretcher, before being taken by ambulance to the track’s medical centre.
“Mark Webber is reported to be awake and alert and taken to the circuit’s medical centre for further examination. Matteo Cressoni was examined at the side of the track and did not go to the Medical Centre,” the FIA World Endurance Championship said in a statement.
