Leapai restrained as he becomes annoyed with Briggs rant…
Former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs hijacked a Wladimir Klitschko press conference on Tuesday and demanded a fight with the Ukrainian.
Klitschko was speaking ahead of his scheduled fight with Alex Leapai on Saturday night, before the 42-year-old American gatecrashed the press conference and accused him of deliberately avoiding him and fighting “bums” like Leapai instead.
An offended Leapai appeared to be keen on engaging with Briggs himself and had to be restrained by his trainer, while Klitschko joked that he had “never had to hold back my opponent at a press conference before”.
Briggs has 53 wins from 61 fights and holds the world record of 32 first-round knockouts, and returned to action after a three-year spell in retirement after losing to Wladimir’s brother, Vitali.
The veteran fighter ended up in intensive care with a broken left orbital bone in his face as well as a broken nose and torn left biceps.
However, the ‘Cannon’ appears to be ready to get back in the ring with the best in the heavyweight division, and he called out the WBA, IBF, WBO and HBO champion.
While the tirade lasted for almost 10 minutes, watch shortened footage of the incident below:
