Siena were defeated by Atalanta in Serie A to find themselves five points adrift of safety.

The match was a vital three points for Atalanta, who were in danger of being dragged into a fight against the drop themselves.
They are now nine points clear of the three teams at the bottom, and three more wins ought to be enough to ensure their safety.
A brace from Giacomo Bonaventura sealed the points for Atalanta, and with his first coming after just three minutes, they were always in control.
Perhaps now they can start to look upwards with ambition, rather than down at the teams below them with trepidation.
