The Big Apple had a discernible Australian feel to it on Saturday night.
Socceroos duo Tim Cahill and David Carney played starring roles as the New York Red Bulls landed an impressive 2-1 victory over D.C. United on Saturday.
After a visibly emotional Cahill watched his son Kyah deliver a touching rendition of Star Spangled Banner to a packed Red Bull arena, it took the 33-year-old attacker just eight minutes to make his mark on the game when he fed Englishman Lloyd Sam who put the Red Bulls in front.
D.C equalised just before half-time, but a swift riposte from Cahill saw him exhibit his aerial prowess to head home the winning goal for his side before departing the field just before the hour after suffering an ankle injury.
