Ex-Derby man’s brace proved the difference.
A brace from ex-Derby forward Giles Barnes proved the difference in Houston Dynamo’s 3-1 win over the Seattle Sounders, spoiling Clint Dempsey’s full debut for him. Barnes’ first came after Will Bruin chased down a ball into the Seattle box, lured the Michael Gspurning off his line before passing back to Barnes towards the edge of the box, who hammered a finish past the Seattle bodies who had rushed to cover the open goal.
Barnes’ second goal was one to be remembered, a 35- yard pile driver which grew and grew until it nestled sweetly past Gspurning into the top left. Shalrie Joseph gave the visitors some hope in the 65th minute but the Dynamo put the game to bed in the 73rd when Will Bruin took pivoted and volleyed home.
