Benitez and co. face a tough looking trip to Romania to take on the one time European heavyweights.
Romanian giants Steaua Bucharest entertain the Champions League holders Chelsea in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday night hoping to cause a huge upset against the west London outfit in UEFA’s second tier competition.
The current Romanian league leaders and the Blues have never previously met in European football, but the home side, who are in great domestic form going into this eagerly anticipated match up, did manage to cause a big upset in the round of 32 when they saw off the challenge of Eredivisie champions Ajax over two legs following a dramatic penalty shoot out.
‘Interim’ Chelsea head coach Rafa Benitez still has two cup competitions to target for the remainder of this season, this tournament and the FA Cup, with Chelsea set to face arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford a week on Sunday.
