For all of the talk about Aston Villa’s lack of scoring for the last few months they didn’t have any problems against Sunderland as Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor utterly humiliated Sunderland at Stadium of Light.
The Villains’ striker began Sunderland’s day of rage with a left footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner thanks to a great assist by Leandro Bacuna.
What seemed like a fluke at the time became the start of a cascade of defensive failures for Sunderland as striker Gabriel Agbonlahor scored less than two minutes later.
But Agbonlahor wasn’t anywhere close to being done at that point, and at the 37′ mark began emptying the stadium with a left footed shot from the right side of the box to the bottom left corner thanks to an assist by Charles N’Zogbia.
With the stadium already clearing out Christian Benteke ended Sunderland’s day before halftime with a header from the centre of the box to the top right corner that was once again assisted by Bacuna.
Sunderland’s offense was anemic and had only one close shot the entire game, which came late at the 80′ mark.
