Premiers hang on to secure victory against fast finishing St Kilda side in Wellington.
The Sydney Swans have secured the first ever AFL premiership points on foreign soil after grinding out a well-earned 16-point win against St Kilda in Wellington.
The loss for the Saints leaves them with just one win from the opening five weeks of the season as they struggle to maintain their status as normally one of the sides to beat.
However, it was the Swans night as they continue to improve as they fired 29 points clear early in the fourth quarter before hanging on to win in front of a crowd of 22,546.
Nick Riewoldt put on a suburb performance in a losing side and he was assisted by Lenny Hayes, Steven Gilbert and Leigh Montagna.
For the Swans, Daniel Hannerbery, Luke Parker, Josh Kennedy Jarrod McVeigh, Kieren Jack and Jude Bolton were among the side’s best.
