It’s been a poor start to the season for Eugenie Bouchard, and it only got worse after she went down to Romania’s Alexandra Dulgheru in a Fed Cup clash on the weekend.

Bouchard has failed to reach the quarter-final stage at any tournament since the Australian Open in January, and her loss to Dulgheru was made even more humiliating following her own lack of humility prior to the clash.
The Canadian refused to shake hands with Dulgheru in the pre-match ceremony and went on to lose 6-4 6-4 to her lower-ranked opponent.
Bouchard told CBC that she “doesn’t believe in wishing an opponent good luck a match”, however she was highly criticised by tennis fans who said she showed a lack of sportsmanship.
Romania’s Simona Halep weighed in on the debate after she questioned Bouchard’s upbringing, before Dulgheru mocked her opponent during the match after conjuring up a fake handshake with her teammates as she defeated the world no.7.
