4. Matthew Hayden – 103 Tests (8625 runs, average 50.73)
The tall, powerful batsman opened for Australia and despite being occasionally criticised for his style, was prolific with the bat. Hayden set an Australian record midway in his international career, scoring 549 runs in a three match Test series against India in 2000. He formed a truly great opening partnership with Justin Langer and briefly held the Test record of 380 runs, before Brian Lara took back his crown.
