2. Allan Border – 156 Tests (11,174 runs, average 50.56)
Durability was the key to Border’s fine cricketing career. When he retired in 1994 he held the records of featuring in more Tests, more consecutive Tests and more Tests as a captain. He was a committed batsman but took to captaincy a little more reluctantly. However, Border’s contribution to the game of cricket in Australia is recognised by the fact the best Australian cricketer of the year is awarded the Allan Border Medal.
