Ray Rice suspended Roger Goodell justifies Rice suspension 49ers DT arrested for domestic violenceEarly on Monday, TMZ released this video from inside the elevator when Ravens RB Ray Rice punched his then-fiancee, now-wife Janay Palmer. (WARNING: Footage contains violence)
Palmer chose not to pursue criminal charges against Rice and the couple got married several weeks later.
This video was not public at the time NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell chose to punish Rice and gave him a 2 game suspension. However, the public backlash from the short punishment forced Goodell to change the policy for future acts of domestic abuse – an automatic 6-game suspension if charged.
The 6-game suspension rule is not retroactive, however, which means Rice will not face any additional punishments in light of this footage.
