7. The Catch, by Dwight Clark, 1982
The most important play in San Francisco 49ers history by all accounts, that started the Joe Montana era and began one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history.
In the 1981 NFC Championship game between the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys, the 49ers were down 27-21 with less than two minutes remaining. A young Joe Montana under heavy duress from the Cowboys defenders scrambled to the sideline and fired a bullet to WR Dwight Clark who leaped out of double-coverage to grab the ball in the endzone for a TD to give the 49ers the definitive 28-27 lead, winning the NFC Championship game, and proceeding to their first of four Superbowls in the next 9 seasons.
