Sangakkara was still a law student when he broke into the Sri Lankan side aged 22, equipped with a graceful and elegant batting style.
Considered to be a better batsman than wicketkeeper the Sri Lankan has never been close to being dropped in either aspect.
His powerful and mature batting was best displayed when he scored 287 in 2006 against a South African side boasting world-class pace bowlers Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini.
Sangakkara wrote himself into the history books of cricket greats when he became the joint fastest man to score 10,000 Test runs, along with Tendulkar and Brian Lara.
