The Indian skipper is the only man to rival Sachin Tendulkar’s popularity in his home nation in the last 15 years.
The small-town boy came onto the international scene in 2004 as a strong one-day cricketer, before making his Test debut in 2005.
Dhoni has since gone on to become captain of the five-day side but his time in international cricket hasn’t always been smooth, criticised for both his captaincy and batting ability.
The wicketkeeper has a habit of proving his critics wrong however.
