5. Matt Prior – England, 3454 runs, average 43.72:
Prior is currently considered to be the best wicketkeeper batsman in Test cricket, with his performance with both bat and gloves in recent years.
His skilled batting from the lower order have saved England from trouble on numerous occasions and he rarely has a bad innings.
It took the South African-born Prior a while to break the international scene however, but was eventually preferred to both Geraint Jones and Chris Read by then coach Peter Moores and the ‘keeper hasn’t looked back since.
Prior also scored a century on debut in the third fastest time in history.
