The first and only Australian on the list was an outstanding international batsman with some big hitting from almost anywhere in the order.
Gilchrist had a simple philosophy in cricket of ‘just hit the ball’ and always had an honest and cheerful demeanor.
The wicketkeeper made his Test debut in 1999 and many argued his introduction transformed the Australian side from a good team into a great one.
Gilchrist bowed out of international cricket in 2008 but his savage batting can still be seen in the IPL for Kings XI Punjab.
