Goals galore in Serie A with a closer look at the pick of the bunch.
With no shortage of entertainment and goals in Serie A this weekend, the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Adem Ljajic and Panagiotis Kone put on a real show with some fantastic strikes.
The award for the most impressive performance of the weekend arguably goes to Rudi Garcia’s Roma, who secured a 3-0 win over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday.
The newly-promoted side arrived in the Italian capital off the back of their opening day success against AC Milan, but there was to be no such repeats as the Giallorossi put on a masterclass after initially struggling to break the visitors down.
The midfield trio of Kevin Strootman, Daniele De Rossi and Pjanic were effective and dominated play in the middle of the pitch, while talismanic captain Francesco Totti pulled the strings in a more withdrawn role with the likes of Gervinho and Ljajic feeding off his excellent distribution.
A flurry of second half goals including two sensational strikes from Pjanic and Ljajic, with the latter scoring on his debut for the club.
Elsewhere, there were plenty of choices for the top three this weekend, with an honourable mention for Alberto Gilardino and his effort against Fiorentina.
However, arguably the pick of the bunch was Bologna’s Panagiotis Kone’s effort against Sampdoria on Sunday night, as he continues to create his own personal highlight reel with some wonderful goals.
There were 43 goals in Serie A this past weekend, the highest in a single match-day since the 2004-05 season. With an influx of top strikers from around Europe, there promises to be plenty more throughout the season, but here are the top three from this weekend:
1] Miralem Pjanic – Roma vs Verona
2] Adem Ljajic – Roma vs Verona
3] Panagiotis Kone – Bologna vs Sampdoria
