Ovechkin on the mark again to lead Capitals.
The Washington Capitals are edging closer to a Stanley Cup play-off berth following their dominant 5-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night.
Alex Ovechkin scored his NHL-leading 28th goal, as he led the Capitals to their eighth consecutive win as Washington emerge as a real force in the Eastern Conference.
Jack Hillen, Martin Erat, Marcus Johansson and Troy Brouwer all scored, while Braden Holtby made 29 saves as the Capitals remain four points ahead of the Winnipeg Jets atop the Southeast Division with just five games remaining in the regular season.
As for the Maple Leafs, they could have clinched their first play-off berth since 2004, but having missed out on victory the wait goes on.
