Tottenham Hotspur came back from two down to draw 2-2 with Basel in the UEFA Europa League, but Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas will be concerned by a Gareth Bale injury late on.
Tottenham Hotspur endured a dreadful beginning to their UEFA Europa League match against FC Basel but recovered to finish the game 2-2.
The north London side were bewitched by Basel’s spellbinding strike force of Mohamed Salah, Marco Streller and Valentin Stocker, and the three combined magically to allow Stocker to lash in the opener.
Soon afterwards, it was 0-2, and Spurs were rocking.
Fabian Frei headed in a corner after the ball was flicked on, and Tottenham had quite the uphill task.
However, their battling qualities shone through when Emmanuel Adebayor found his lost scoring boots to pull back a scrappy goal for Spurs after some pinball in the box.
An intelligent run from Jan Vertonghen gave Gylfi Sigurdsson the space to shoot on goal from just outside the penalty area, and a kind deflection brought Tottenham level.
There were no more goals, but the mood rather soured at White Hart Lane. Aaron Lennon and William Gallas departed the field with what appeared to be minor muscle complaints, before Gareth Bale suffered what appeared to be a serious looking ankle injury late on.
Spurs finished the match with nine men.
