After a difficult week Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has something to smile about as the club progress to the knock-out stage of the Europa League as group winners.
Spurs secured a 0-2 victory over Tromso thanks to a Adnan Causevic own goal and Moussa Dembele strike and the side can go into their final group game knowing the result doesn’t matter in terms of qualification.
After suffering a hefty 6-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday pressure was starting to grow on Villas-Boas and with a busy December schedule coming up, it was vital that Tottenham got all three points in Norway.
AVB opted to give some of the players who have had less game time this season a start, with youngster Zeki Fryers coming in at left-back and Kyle Naughton on the opposite flank.
Brad Friedel started in goal, whislt Nacer Chadli and Andros Townsend also came into the side, along with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Etienne Capoue.
The north London club had to wait until the second half until they took the lead in this tie however, when a Sigurdsson free-kick was sent goalwards by Vlad Chiriches, only for the ball to cannon off Tromso defender Causevic and into the net.
Dembele doubled that lead soon after, with the Iceland international again the provider as a neat through ball was finished off well by the Belgian.
Elsewhere in the group, Anzhi Makhachkala’s failure to beat Sheriff Tiraspol means that Spurs will definitely top Group K.
