When you think of big name stars in the UFC, or in the world of mixed martial arts, Ricardo Lamas is not the first that springs to mind.
But there is no denying the dangerous fighter known as ‘The Bully’ is a very real threat to Jose Aldo’s featherweight title this weekend.
Since making his debut with the promotion in 2011, Lamas has won his past four fights in a row, knocking off Matt Grice, Cub Swanson, Hatsu Hoiko and Erik Koch, with only Hioki making it to a judge’s decision.
Combining the talents of his wrestling background from Elmhurst College and a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu is capable of turning a fight on the ground, such as he did against Swanson, winning via arm-triangle in the second round.
Hear from Lamas and his game-plan to try and bring the belt back to his camp.
Aldo bring with him into this weekend an incredible amount of experience, something that Lamas cannot prepare for no matter how much file he studies or rounds of sparring he does.
Every fight Aldo has won in the UFC, which is up to five if you’re counting along at home, has been for the title after joining the promotion from World Extreme Cagefighting.
Possessing some of the best leg kicks in all of MMA, Aldo can go between keeping the fight at a distance and slowly chopping out his opponent’s base from underneath him, to using his explosive athleticism to close the distance and do damage from in close.
