‘Smooth’ gets the fourth round submission victory to edge closer to a title shot.
The fight might not have gone exactly how he would have liked, but it finished the way he would have hoped for.
Benson Henderson earned his ninth win in the UFC when he choked out Rustam Khabilov via a rear-naked choke in the fourth round of their main event bout at UFC Fight Night 42.
Henderson set up the victory 1.16mins into the fourth round when he landed a stiff uppercut which partially dropped Khabilov (17-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), allowing him to sink in the choke.
The former lightweight champion celebrated wildly after the win, his first stoppage in four years, rushing to the media side of the Octagon shouting at them “say something now”.
With the performance, Henderson now owns back-to-back wins since losing his title to Anthony Pettis this past summer at UFC 164. Khabilov, meanwhile, suffers his first UFC defeat in four outings.
