Whitecaps move to second in the Western Conference.
Goals from Camilo Sanvezzo and Kenny Miller proved the difference as the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 at BC Place on Saturday night in front of 20,151 fans.
Camilo kept himself level with Mike Magee at the top of the MLS goal charts on 14 when he opened the scoring in the 60th minute, beating his marker Steven Beitashour to poke home a ball across goal from Nigel Reo-Coker’s cross, who had charged through the San Jose defence from his own half.
Scottish forward Kenny Miller doubled Vancouver’s lead in the 74th minute, banging home a deftly touched ball into the box from Russell Teibert into the bottom right corner. Reo-Coker had a swing and a miss at Teibert’s ball, which fooled a defender, allowing Miller to step into space and score his right-footed effort.
The win moves the Whitecaps to second in the Western Conference with 36 points, five points behind leaders Real Salt Lake, while the San Jose Earthquakes sit eighth on 30 points, four off a play off place.
