Vicious shot earns ‘The Phenom’ a possible shot at the UFC middleweight title.
Vitor Belfort has taken a huge step towards become the next number one contender for the UFC middleweight title after knocking out Luke Rockhold in the first round of their fight in Brazil.
The pair locked horns as the last fight on the UFC on FX 8 card, and the bout did not fail to live up to the hype, with the home town hero Belfort pulling off a stunning head kick.
In what will be a contender for knockout of the year in the UFC, Belfort showed he had indeed learned a few new tricks to dispatch the former Strikeforce champion in the first round.
Belfort stunned Rockhold with the perfectly-timed wheel kick before pouncing on his downed foe forcing the referee to intervene.
The win means Belfort has the rare honor of being the first fighter in UFC history to win back-to-back bouts via a headkick.
Belfort takes his record now to (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) while the loss is just the second for Rockhold in his MMA career (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC).
