Eagles keep their top eight hopes alive as Saints are left gutted by loss.
The West Coast Eagles move back into the AFL top eight after their come-from-behind victory against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
Despite trailing for much of the game, the visitors prevailed with Eric McKenzie the unlikely hero for the Eagles as they won 12.12 (84) to 11.14 (80).
Midfielder Leigh Montagna had a golden opportunity to put the Saints seven points up late in the final term, but he missed from close range after declining to slip a handball over the top to teammates Nick Riewoldt and Stephen Milne.
Beau Maister spurned another chance for St Kilda – and it proved extremely costly.
Shannon Hurn’s long kick-out fell to Matt Rosa, who hacked the ball forward in the direction of Mackenzie.
Maister then slipped over at the worst possible moment, allowing Mackenzie to kick the match-winner.
Key defender Mackenzie ended the match with two goals, having booted only one in his previous 87 AFL games.
The 12.12 (84) to 11.14 (80) victory saw the Eagles move back into the top eight, while St Kilda remained 16th with a sorry 2-9 win-loss record.
