Wigan will struggle to qualify for the knock-out stages after a disappointing home defeat.
Wigan Athletic’s hopes of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the Europa League are now out of their hands after suffering a home defeat to Belgian side Zulte Waregem.
The Latics will now have to beat Maribor in their final group game and hope Zulte do not triumph over leaders Rubin Krasnodar.
It started well for Wigan when defender Leon Barnett gave them the lead after seven minutes, but the visitors equalised before half-time thanks to Thorgan Hazard – brother of Chelsea star Eden.
Then with just two minutes of ordinary time remaining Bernard Malanda broke Wigan hearts by curling an effort into the top corner and claiming all three points for Zulte.
