Robin van Persie (v Charlton Athletic, 30 September 2006)
Having bid farewell to legendary forward Dennis Bergkamp just months earlier, Arsenal fans were looking for a new hero.
Robin van Persie had failed to properly establish himself in his first two years in North London but the young Dutchman illustrated that he could be every bit as good as his compatriot with this stunning ‘cross and crash’ finish against Charlton in the Premier League. The forward had already scored to cancel out Darren Bent’s opener, when he smashed home Emmanuel Eboue’s floated ball.
Boss Arsene Wenger called it ‘the goal of a lifetime’.
