Dennis Bergkamp (v Newcastle, 2 March 2002)
Arsenal went into this game against title rivals Newcastle without talismanic striker Thierry Henry – so it was left to Dennis Bergkamp and Sylvain Wiltord to lead the line and score the required goals to increase the pressure on league leaders Manchester United.
Bergkamp did not disappoint; the Dutchman demonstrated a ballet dancer’s grace to pirouette past Nikos Dabizas before beating Shay Given to hand Arsenal the lead on 11 minutes at St James’ Park.
A Sol Campbell goal ensured Arsenal coasted to a 2-0 win. They went on to win the title.
